Pure Storage Non-Disruptive Upgrade? Proof is in the Puddin! (Demo)

There is an age-old story for the storage admins as they embark on the dreaded hardware renewal every 3 to 5 years. The process is as follows:

  • Buy a new array equal to or larger than the current array
  • They rack, stack, cable, zone, and initialize this new array
  • Start the arduous forklift migration of data from the old to the new

Since its inception, Pure Storage has built their arrays to be modular and non-disruptive for both software-based upgrades as well as hardware-based upgrades.

In this video, I wanted to demonstrate this non-disruptive hardware controller upgrade firsthand.

Please post any questions you may have, I’m happy to share.
